BAG OF WORDS
Bringing Meaning Through Type
Goal:
Be able to use type design to express meaning. To use the words “Ashy” and “Tear” to portray emotion and represent a situation/ story without using any graphical information.
Project Statement:
My first design, focused on the unsteadiness someone may have while watching a disaster occur. So, I made “Ashy” look run down and beaten up while “tear” was made to look like the letters were barely stable. For my second design, I decided to tower and surround “Ashy” over “Tear” in order to create the sense that death can be overbearing, can weigh heavy on us, and that we may constantly dwell on the past to the point where it nearly consumes us. I gave “Ashy” a thicker font to add to heaviness and “Tear” a thinner, more brittle and fragile look.
